Centra Homes Coming to Centerville: Introducing the Townhomes of Sorel Quarter
March 8th, 2022
City Council approval has set the stage for 26 new townhomes near the city’s historic downtown area.
When seeking bids to develop a 1.6 acre stretch of land near downtown Centerville, city planners had two key goals. Leaders sought to both diversify housing options for residents while also celebrating the French-Canadian heritage of the city. That vision took a large step forward recently when the city council approved a plan from Coon Rapids-based Centra Homes.
The new proposed development, dubbed Sorel Quarter, calls for 26 townhomes, each custom designed with accents and design details that draw inspiration from French architecture. Plans for the six proposed buildings feature a welcoming urban layout which faces an updated pedestrian-friendly streetscape in the heart of town center. A regional trail runs through the new neighborhood, connecting residents to nearby Laurie LaMotte Park and Centerville Lake.
The partnership between Centerville and Centra Homes comes on the heels of an RFP process that sought competitive bids from a number of developers over the past year. The Centra Homes proposal was selected largely due to design choices and a collaborative approach to achieve the City’s Master Plan vision. Construction is set to begin this spring with hopes that homes will be completed within 18 months.
“We have enjoyed our partnership with city staff in Centerville and look forward to continued collaboration to enhance the downtown experience for this unique community.”
